OBD2 error numbering - diagram


Numbering of OBD2 errors:

P 1 0 2 2

CHAR 1 SYMBOL 2 SYMBOL 3 CHARACTERS 4 AND 5
B - body 0 - Generic (SAE) Control unit system or function Error code number
C - chassis 1 - Factory (OEM)
P - engine / gearbox 2 - Factory (OEM)
U - interunit data bus 3 - Reserve

Reading OBD-II codes:

First position:
P - is for powertrain codes - the code is associated with the operation of the engine and / or automatic transmission
B - is for body codes - the code is associated with the operation of "body systems" (airbags, central locking, power windows)
C - is for chassis codes - the code refers to the chassis system (chassis)
U - is for network codes - the code refers to the system of interaction between electronic units (for example, to the CAN bus)
Second position :
0 - common for OBD-II code
1 and 2 - manufacturer code
3 - reserve
Third position - type of fault:
1 - fuel system or air supply
2 - fuel system or air supply
3 - ignition system
4 - auxiliary control
- idle
6 - ECU or its circuits
7 - transmission
8 - transmission
The fourth and fifth positions are the serial number of the error
